Port Lands tour, Port Lands Energy Centre protest

This Saturday, the The Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation (TWRC) is holding public tours of the Port Lands — the 350 hectares of largely underutilized waterfront land a 20 minute walk from downtown. The free tour sounds like a good opportunity to learn more about future plans for the area and initiatives that are already underway. Registration is not necessary.
According to the TWRC's website, the open house and bus tour will give citizens the opportunity to learn more about:
- TWRC's Port Lands Implementation Strategy
- Lake Ontario Park
- New Outdoor Sports Fields
- Naturalization of the Mouth of the Don River
- Leslie, Cherry and Unwin Greening
- Expo 2015 Bid
- And many more revitalization activities
Bus tours of the Port Lands will leave every 30 minutes outside the Toronto Hydro Building.
DETAILS:
When: Saturday, April 29th, 2006 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be a short ceremony with Mayor David Miller and Councillor Paula Fletcher at 11:45am
Where: Toronto Hydro Cafeteria, 500 Commissioners Street (Corner of Commissioners and Carlaw), 2nd Floor. Parking is available in the guest lot beside the Toronto Hydro building main entrance. For those taking the TTC, take bus 172 from Union Station and walk east from Munition Avenue or bus 83 from Don Lands Station down Leslie and walk west from Leslie and commissioners.

Coinciding with the port lands tour is a rally to protest the Port Lands Energy Centre organized by the Toronto Energy Coalition.
From the email I received: “Family welcome. Dust masks, Hazmat wear and anti-PEC banners encouraged! Join us to keep our air clean and our waterfront green! Come out and say, loud and clear, ‘STOP THE PLANT!'â€
When: Saturday April 29th - Starting at 11am (rain or shine) and concluding with a march (or bike ride) to the PEC site.
Where: In front of the Toronto Hydro Building, 500 Commissioners Ave. (near Carlaw)
