Public forum: Urban Design or Civic Design?

One plus One equals Three invites you to join a public forum this Saturday, March 24 at 1p.m., at the Toronto Free Gallery (660 Queen St. East).
The forum will begin with a discussion, led by the audience, about Toronto's urban design. Panelists James Brown (Brown and Storey Architects), Todd Irvine (LEAF Toronto), Lynsey Kissane (Evergreen), Martin Liefhebber (Breathe Architects) and William Woodworth (Beacon to the Ancestors) will be there to provide insight.
After enjoying some food and drinks during a break there will be round table discussions on specific topics of interest that came up during the fist part of the forum.
We connect with our urban environment all day, everyday. We travel from one part of the city to another, by public transit, by bicycle, by foot, by wheelchair, by stroller or by car. We move between buildings, through parks, back lanes and public spaces.
But who designs these common spaces and shared infrastructure? What values influence these designs?
When we look at our city, we don't find the color green in most places other than our front lawn and city parks. As environmental awareness grows, and societal values shift, will city planners and designers begin greening city design?
