Montréal Monday — new developments and more Metro

Each Monday Spacing will bring you some of the popular posts from our sister blog Spacing Montréal. We'll keep an eye open for topics and discussions that are pertinent to current public space issues in Toronto.
• "The problems with the Griffintown project" highlights and comments on a recent op-ed piece in the Gazette about the redevelopment plans in place for an historic Montréal neighbourhood. Like Toronto's Queen West Triangle and Port Lands projects, the debate surrounding Griffintown includes important questions about land use, commercialism, and the underlying philosophy of city-building.
• The new Sustainability Plan for the "McGill Ghetto" area of Montréal is examined in the post "Greening Milton Park." The plan includes improvements to pedestrian and bike infrastructure, targets for waste management and diversion, renewable energy projects, and water re-use initiatives.
• Here's a headline sure to make our Torontonian hearts ache: "Transit fares increase, but so does level of service." In Montréal, the 2008 municipal budget "contains more money for public transit than we have seen in years." And by the way, do you know how much a monthly transit pass costs in Montréal?
