Ride Share in case of a strike

While sitting in a hotel room in Nebraska, I found this web site called PickupPal that may help folks if there is a TTC strike on Monday.

This site charges you a commission for each ride you make. Save money, just advertise your carpool on Craigslist or something like that.

I would hope that people would be "civil" and offer rides to those they see in need. Its what makes a community work.CFRB is offering a "bus service" for those in need.Check their website for availability.
But wouldn't it be better if we could find a way that unions can settle their petty demands without causing financial hardship to innocent bystanders who count on the service to survive.
We need leadership in this city, the fire department had a contract settled within seconds in a last minute secret settlement. Why couldn't that have happened here considering the importance of the TTC.

I currently reside in Parkdale, and my mother is in Downsview. If she should need my assistance during a TTC strike, the cab fare to Downsview is about $35. Totally out of my league.....I guess I could hitch-hike. THE POINT IS I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO.

The TTC IS AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE TO ANYONE IN A LOW INCOME BRACKET (I think that's about 80% of us in Toronto).

STOP USING THE POOR AND THE ELDERLY AND THE STUDENTS AND THE DISABLED AS PAWNS IN YOUR UNION NEGOTIATIONS. DOES T.T.C. REALLY STAND FOR TAKE THE CAR?

@ Andrew you are correct about the commission - the best way around that is to not charge your passenger anything - if you do that then you owe PickupPal nothing - 7% of $0 = $0. This a good opportunity for commuters to try out new options - we are currently matching up thousands of potentially stranded TTC riders.

I hope there is a speedy resolution to this strike - Public transportation is a vital part of our economy and the most effective way on reducing smog/congestion and our commuting carbon footprint. I think it should be turned into an essential service so strikes are not allowed and this kind of transportation meltdown is not an option.

Good luck Toronto,

I signed up with PickupPal and was very disappointed. All 'matches' did not correspond to the locations and times that I had entered into the site. What's the point in asking for this information if you're going to ignore it?

Good idea, poorly executed.

@ Cheryl - I am sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience. We ask where you are starting from and where you are going on what day and from there match you up. I cannot explain why it did not work for you specifically however if you want send me an email with your username and I will try and see what went wrong - eric@pickuppal.com.

Thanks - Eric
