Every Friday night in July the International Street Food Festival will be taking place in Mel Lastman Square. The event will include a variety of diverse food vendors as well as cultural entertainment.

WHAT: Movies Under the Stars - The Spiderwick Chronicles

WHERE: Parc Downsview Park (35 Carl Hall Rd.)
Downsview Park is pleased to present free movies under the stars Friday nights throughout July and August, sponsored by 97.3 EZ Rock and Toronto Community News. Bring your blankets or lawn chairs with your family, friends and neighbours and enjoy a free family-friendly movie under the stars as the sun sets at Downsview Park. *LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests) is a not-for-profit group dedicated to protecting and improving Toronto's urban forest. Come out to the next volunteer orientation session and find out how you can use your skills to help Toronto's urban forest! This session will highlight the issues faced by our urban forest, provide an overview of LEAF programs and discuss specific volunteer opportunities. Registration is required.

WHAT: Roncesvalles Avenue Streetscape Improvement

The City of Toronto is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment Study to examine potential streetscape improvements on Roncesvalles Ave. between Queen St. and Dundas St. West. Public consultation is an important past of this study. Comments and questions about the study may be submitted directly to project staff and will be documented and reviewed as part of the environmental assessment process. This public open house will provide information on the study to date, the challenges and opportunities identified, and the alternative solutions. Staff will be available to answer questions and concerns.

WHAT: Community Conversations on Poverty Reduction

The City of Toronto will hold two public meetings in July to give Torontonians the opportunity to talk about poverty and how it can be reduced. The public sessions come at a time when the Government of Ontario is conducting consultations on the development of a provincial poverty reduction strategy. The Province has said it intends to introduce its strategy by the end of the year. The public meetings will be part of the City's consultation process that will invite residents to express their views on poverty reduction.

WHAT: LEAD Canada's Cohort 14 Training Program

LEAD Canada, the Canadian affiliate of Leadership for Environment andDevelopment International, is offering a professional development program for people interested in leadership training within the challenging sphere of sustainable development. The theme for the first domestic session in Toronto is ‘Sustainable Cities'. A criticalcomponent of any sustainable city requires that energy, alond with its common by-product, climate change, be addressed. Over the course of the program, workshop leaders will foster in participants systems-thinking, communication and interest-based negotiation skills. Participants will acquire a set of tools that can be taken back to business, government, NGO or university work-places. The registration fee for the six-day program is $750. Applications are due by July 21, 2008.
