Moonwalking Dundas Square

When Michael Jackson's death was announced, I never gave any thought to the possibility that Spacing would somehow be writing about it. But that changed when I saw the invitations bouncing around Facebook for a collective moonwalk in Yonge-Dundas Square for Friday night. Spacing photographer Sam Javanrouh captured the event on video and gave us all another reason to love the "scramble" intersection.

Cool idea, but wow, worst moonwalking ever.
It's not just walking backwards, people.
This is the lamest 'event' I've ever seen.
It's the thought that counts! Most of these people wouldn't win award for their dance moves, but it's sweet to see people of various ages and races paying tribute together, especially some of whom appear to be bystanders who were simply at the right place at the right time.
Simply amazing.
I don't think they even did anything like this when Elvis or Lennon died....well, at least I wasn't around for it if there was....
But I am glad I'll be around for this!

Is it just me, or does it seem like the once-and-still-occasionally-controversial concept of Yonge-Dundas Square is finally, truly, magically fulfilling its urban promise in its role as the epicentre for Toronto's Michael Jackson memorializing? And I'm not being cynical, either...
